Map No. 9. Indian Ocean

Size: 422 x 538 mm.

This map encompasses the area of the Indian Ocean with the coasts of Asia from the Arabian peninsula to the west as far as the Malaysian peninsula to the east.

Mathematical elements: the south, equator and tropic of Capricorn are marked.

Latitude scale: 1o = 8 mm.

League scale: 1 league = 1 mm.

Four compass roses with 32 radii and a cross to mark the East.

Illustrations: Heads of state and tents.

The left side matches the page of the 1558 Far East map by Diogo Homem, albeit without the northern territories. It differs in the outline of the Kathiavar peninsula (north-western coastline of India) and Ceylon where the place names are missing. River courses and mountains are not depicted and the composition is different.
The frames around the map are the same as those in the Atlases of 1567, 1568, 1571, 1572 and 1574.
