Cardeña Beatus

f. 5A, The message to the Church of Philadelphia

Back

John is on the left holding the open book that the angel is about to take, but not the key of David which must, of course, be held by Christ. The Church of Philadelphia on the right, crowned by a triple tower with a weathervane on the central tower, abides by the conventions mentioned earlier. The two columns in the Manchester Beatus are of different heights, imposing the same layout on the two miniatures at the bottom of the folio.
