Cardeña Beatus

f. 4A, The message to the Church of Sardis

Back

This is perhaps one of the illustrations that best demonstrates how the Cardeña Beatus inspired the Rylands Beatus (f. 72r), which accurately reproduces the interwoven arches shown in the lower part of the Church. The upper part however, shown in detail in the model, has virtually disappeared from the Manchester Beatus. The two figures of St John and the angel, are shown as usual as if in conversation.
