Christ is standing against a blue cloudy background crowded with angels outlined in gold. The Redeemer wears only a loin cloth (perizonium) and a heavy crown of thorns on his head. The blood flows in abundance from the wounds, which are clearly marked. The model for this small devotional image is a plate engraved by Dürer around 1500. The margins are decorated with symbolic flowers such as roses, violets and carnations.
