Back

f. 211r, Resurrection of Christ

A twenty-four line framed miniature over both columns of text of the Resurrection of Christ. The scene is set at dawn with the sky partly dark and the sun just beginning to rise at the top left. The Risen Christ, radiating light, stands before the tomb with the soldiers sleeping around, and an angel in white hovers in the sky above. At the top left the Three Maries can be seen approaching the tomb. There is a full border of the first category with silver-white acanthus scrolls and intertwining branches, incorporating two birds and an ape playing bagpipes on a pale yellow-gold ground.
