f. 4v, July

Leo, the lion; men and a woman harvesting corn interspersed with poppies in a summer landscape with a farmhouse in the background. They are using short-handled scythes in contrast to the long-handled scythes used for cutting the grass in June. The harvest of corn is a widespread subject for this month, but occasionally this subject is used for August. Many July illustrations show the binding of the corn into sheaves, which is not shown in the Isabella Breviary.
