Map No. 10. Japan and the east of the Eastern Archipelago

Size: 421 x 541 mm.

Mathematical elements: North, South, East, the equator and the tropic of Cancer are marked. Western orientation.

Latitude scale: 1º = 8 mm.

League scale: 1 league = 1 mm.

Five compass roses with 32 radii and a cross to mark the East.

The right side matches the page in Diogo Homem's 1558 map of the Far East. Its composition and contents are very similar to the map reproduced by Marques, except that ours depicts a sickle-shaped archipelago in the centre which also appears in other maps by Homem dated 1561.

The frames around the map are the same as those in the Atlases of 1567, 1568, 1571, 1572 and 1574.
