The new addition to our biblical series that begin with the Apocalypse is the strange Book of Daniel featuring a variety of material: dreams to be interpreted, visions and prophecies, and also straightforward human tales such as that of Susanna and the old men.
In beatus codices, the Daniel cycle of illustrations is always short. This book features more than seventy drawings based upon the original ten, ranging from the imaginary and oneiric scenes of the court to the astute questioning conducted by young Daniel.
The author’s intention in this new volume, as in the Alcaíns Codex of the Beatus of Liébana and the Song of Songs, is to rekindle the magic of old that characterises illuminated books. He attempts to adapt their language to the third millennium, perpetuating and popularising it.
