Talleres del Renacimiento

Edited by Roberto Cassanelli

Talleres del Renacimiento addresses a basic and yet little known aspect of the history of European art: the process of creating a work of art in the artist’s workshop. Talleres must be understood to be the physical workplace and also the hierarchy of the different skilled tasks, linked to specific economic or market requirements, governing the production of artistic and craftsman objects.

In the Renaissance, unlike in contemporary art, works of art (painting, miniature, sculpture...) were the result of combined efforts by teams of artists coordinated by the main master. This book, with writings by different European experts, explores the fascinating universe of the workshops of masters as famous and prolific as Giotto, Pisanello, Bellini, Rafael... and provides an insight into their workplaces and the teams of artists producing the work.
